When WSP was approached by one of Canada’s leading law firms to provide expert witness services for a litigation involving a mining company and one of its major investors, the company turned to Ken Darlington, whose expertise and knowledge of mining and process facilities, project execution, and commercial litigation made him a natural choice. Working with a partner, Ken assessed the development of a project with a capital cost of over $1 billion, generated a detailed report of his findings, and supported strategic settlement negotiations, which helped to lead to an out-of-court settlement.
This junior mining company operated for more than 20 years, working to develop gold and rare earths properties in Quebec, before it was merged into a new company in 2018. While senior management focused on attracting investment and exploring the properties, we managed all aspects of communications in both English and French, including all website content, corporate presentations, investor relations, press releases, and social media management. We also attended trade shows representing the company and created trade show booth materials such as large-scale maps, banners, and other signage.
SNC-Lavalin was tasked with the preparation of a Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS) for one of its iron ore clients and asked Refined Substance for some technical writing and editing assistance to complete the study’s Executive Summary. It was important that the executive summary be written in a clear, jargon-free manner so that senior executives reading it could understand the implications of the study’s findings without necessarily having a thorough background in mining and geology.
Refined Substance helped with the compiling and editing of information for a Basic Engineering Information Memorandum (BEIM) for the Minera Panama’s Cobre Panama copper mine. The document helped obtain the necessary funding to begin mine construction in May 2012. Refined Substance then took on the compilation, editing, and formatting of a monthly progress report for Cobre Panama.
